Compassionate Care For Real Life Struggles

I'm Jessica Buranen, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with nine years of experience helping adults navigate ADHD, substance abuse recovery, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.

Credentials: LCSW-C | Additional training in eating disorders | Evidence-based approaches including CBT, mindfulness, substance abuse and behavioral activation

I believe people have an incredible capacity for growth when given the right support. My job isn't to tell you what to do, it's to walk alongside you as your guide in helping you figure out what works for your life. I value clients who are willing to show up and do the work. You don't need to be perfect. You just need to be willing.

What matters most is that you feel met, understood, and accepted exactly where you are.

Why I Do This Work

Early in my career I worked for the state of Maryland in the alcohol and drug recovery center then transferred to the Veterans Administration, supporting veterans through addiction and recovery. That experience shaped how I approach therapy today. I learned to meet people in the middle of real, complicated struggle, not textbook problems, but the messy reality of trying to stay sober while your marriage is falling apart, or managing ADHD while caring for aging parents.

I saw what happens when people feel judged or dismissed by healthcare providers. I also saw what becomes possible when they finally feel understood.

That's why I focus on ADHD, recovery, and life transitions. These issues overlap and compound each other, and they require someone who sees the full picture.

Let’s Take The First Step Together

If you recognize yourself in these patterns of ADHD, anxiety, burnout, or recovery, we can explore what is going on and what you would like to feel instead. Our first conversation is relaxed and collaborative, with space for your questions and your pace. Book your free consultation and start building tools that support the life you want.

My Approach to Compassionate Therapy

Sessions with me feel like a real conversation. There's no clipboard, no cold clinical distance. I show up as a steady, grounded presence, someone who can hold space for the chaos without becoming chaotic myself.

I focus on practical strategies that translate into your actual life. We'll build coping skills, organizational systems, and communication tools you can use right away. I draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and behavioral activation, but I explain everything in plain language.

The pace is yours. We'll work collaboratively, which means your voice matters in every session. You know your life better than anyone. My passion is to help you see what's possible and support you as you build toward it.

Therapy for Adults Navigating ADHD Recovery and Change

I work best with adults who are motivated to create change, even when they're not sure how to get there. You don't need to arrive with a plan, just a willingness to try.

I specialize in supporting:

  • Adults with ADHD who struggle with focus, organization, and the shame of feeling different
  • People in recovery from substance abuse who want nonjudgmental support
  • The sandwich generation, juggling care for children and aging parents
  • Anyone facing major life transitions like divorce, career change, or grief
  • Adults dealing with anxiety, depression, or burnout who are ready for something to shift

If you've felt misunderstood or like you're "too much" for other providers, you're not too much here.

What It's Like to Work with a Grounded Trusted Presence

Clients often tell me they chose to work with me because they finally felt understood. After the first session, many say they felt less alone.

Here's what clients value about our work together:

  • Practical tools they can actually use, not just insight without action
  • A nonjudgmental space where honesty doesn't lead to shame
  • Expertise in ADHD and recovery that goes beyond surface-level understanding
  • A collaborative partnership where they're treated as the expert on their life
  • Warmth and directness in equal measure
  • Genuine belief in their capacity to change
